Medical Clinic Cleaning: What Separates Real Disinfection From "Clean-Looking"
Wipe-and-go isn't disinfection. Here's the difference between cleaning and disinfecting a clinic, and what your clinic actually needs.

"Clean" and "disinfected" are three different standards in medical facilities — cleaning removes dirt, sanitizing kills 99.9% of bacteria, disinfection kills 99.999% of bacteria plus viruses. Each requires different products, dwell times, and technique.
Cleaning vs sanitizing vs disinfecting
Cleaning: removes visible soil (soap + water). Sanitizing: reduces pathogens to safe levels (60 seconds contact, mild disinfectant). Disinfecting: kills virtually all pathogens including viruses (5–10 minute dwell, hospital-grade disinfectant). All three are needed daily.
The three surface tiers in a clinic
- Non-critical (floors, walls): clean + sanitize daily.
- Semi-critical (exam tables, blood pressure cuffs): disinfect between patients.
- Critical (instruments): sterilized in-house — not our scope.
The overlooked spots
Chair arms in waiting rooms, magazine covers (or remove them entirely), pen cups at reception, tablet screens, keyboard covers. All high-touch, all rarely disinfected.
Product standards
Every disinfectant must have a Health Canada DIN. We use only products with proven kill claims for the pathogens relevant to healthcare settings — no bleach on stainless (pits it), no quats on rubber (degrades).
Contract structure
Most Canadian clinics use daily nightly cleaning + monthly deep + quarterly floor extraction. See medical clinic cleaning for a compliance-focused contract structure.
Frequently asked questions
